The Jeep concept “container house” can be built and dismantled anywhere to suit the nomadic lifestyle.

Jeep Japan has developed the concept of a container house that can be built and dismantled anywhere, a sleeping companion for the homeless. The car company is considering a convertible home that can be built in the wilderness, desert, or snow-capped mountains, giving owners leeway with the arrangement and functions of the room. Their collaboration resulted in a first look at what they call a “travel home”, conceived as a conventional shipping container home, but with elements for outdoor living incorporated into the design.
The main door slides out to save space and is centrally located for an immediate open view of the interior. Through the main door and on the sides, large windows overlook nature and surroundings, allowing natural light to enter. When there is too much sunlight coming in, homeowners can slam the shutters shut like a treasure chest. Named a jeep, the container house is suitable for families and homeless people who want to enjoy nature temporarily or permanently.
According to the design team, the exterior walls of the Jeep container house are intentionally designed to open and close to create a spacious atmosphere, while natural skylights are used in the roof to create an open feel. The only obstacle preventing the owners from living entirely outside is the foundation of the galvanized iron container house, evidence that the design team wanted residents to always be in touch with their surroundings.
The Jeep Japan design team also recommends that people who want to live in a container house can have their own sofa, tarp, and carpet for outside bonding. Relaxing outdoors is easy, just add a bonfire to a sunset or evening scene and the chilling mode will be in full swing. Entering the interior, the glass material that permeates the space softens the environment. The design team decided not to divide the interior space for themselves, leaving the owners to do it themselves.
With this setup, homeowners can arrange their bedrooms, kitchen, dining and living areas as they see fit. The position of the windows may seem impossible to change, but the benefit of configuring the space as desired by the owner can be beneficial. They can bend the space to their advantage, allowing natural light to enter any part of the house they want.
Like the Jeep, the container house is powered by solar panels so electricity runs throughout the house. The installation allows owners to charge their Jeep while relaxing at home. Since Jeep is developing plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, it makes sense to equip a container house with solar panels. Solar panels could also allow people to live comfortably in the wilderness, where electricity generation is not a problem.
The choice of recycled wood was a conscious decision by the design team, who wanted the container house to resemble an apartment or a real home on the property, and ensure that the material met the standards of today’s environment. Since the Jeep container house can be built anywhere the owner desires, it can also have two houses, one in the city and one in the location where the container house is built. The first is the hustle and bustle of the lifestyle, while the second is a refuge.
