HiFAB Studio and Factory in Grande Prairie to Build Modern Modular Homes by Lake/Flato Architects » Dallas Innovates

The future of modular housing in North Texas has just come to life with remarkable design flair. HiFAB, the latest venture from Dallas-based Oaxaca Interests, today announced the opening of a new studio and production facility in Grande Prairie, a suburb of DFW.
The new modular home venture will start with Haciendas, a series of homes designed by renowned San Antonio-based architecture firm Lake|Flato.
A spokesman for Dallas Innovates said the facility is currently under construction and is expected to open in late January. The facility is 42,500 square feet and will also include an office building and a supply chain warehouse. The first houses are planned to be handed over on March 31.
HiFAB’s Hacienda is only available in Texas for just $249,000. They’re available to order now – and HiFAB says customers can use the interactive technology to personalize their home and “watch the build online from start to finish.”
Oaxaca Interests and HiFAB founder Brent Jackson said he wants to lead the statewide modular housing industry.
“By partnering with Lake|Flato again, we will be able to provide people with well-designed yet functional homes that will be produced in our seven-acre facility,” Jackson said in a statement. “A simple design is hard to come by, but it has allowed us to focus on the details for a cleaner, more efficient lifestyle. This sleek design also allows for a lock-and-go lifestyle.
The Lake|Flato complex west of Dallas already features contemporary homes in a “creative partnership” with Oaxaca Interests. Adjacent to the Belmont Hotel and Sylvan Thirty, this development offers “thoughtfully designed contemporary Texas homes” focused on wellbeing and sustainability.
According to Oaxaca, the homes in West Dallas Hacienda are designed to be built in a factory, “but Oaxaca Interests needs to test the revenue model first.”
Now HiFAB plans to mirror the West Dallas estate in the company’s new Prairie facility using the same sustainable design features and construction methods.
To create healthier homes, HiFAB estates will be equipped with biophilic indoor and outdoor connections and fresh air filtration systems to help eliminate pollutants. They will also feature zero VOC paint and Greenguard Gold certified tile facing materials.
The HiFAB plant also seeks to reduce the “significant waste” common in residential construction by providing what it calls a “low-carbon design and construction process.”
Its employees will also have access to health-focused treatment: HiFAB says its employees will have “local stress relief stretching therapists” and a healthy work environment, as well as 401k and wellness benefits.
Ted Flato, founding partner of Lake|Flato Architects and board member of HiFAB, has been designing modern homes for nearly forty years. In HiFAB, he saw an opportunity to expand the horizons of the company.
“Early designs for Lake|Flato homes have provided clients with creative and accessible ways to connect with nature,” Flato said in a statement. “They are inherently sustainable and draw inspiration from their surroundings through a combination of passive systems, natural materials and local building traditions to create unique artisanal homes.”

HiFAB’s business model includes both individual homebuyers and developers who can build homes on a large scale.
The company’s initial product is an all-rounder in two sizes. Studios are two bedroom/two bathroom versions. Standard room 3/2 is more suitable for families. Each offers three different layouts with customizable tiles, paint colors, and other finishes. HiFAB says studio prices start at $249,000, with standard prices starting at $375,000. The price includes design, assembly, delivery to the site and configuration.
