The Association of Landscape Contractors of Colorado (ALCC) recently recognized many of Denver’s companies and landscapes with its Elite Awards 2022. The only program of its kind in Colorado, the ELITE Awards honor landscape firms across the state for unmatched professionalism, excellence, and innovation.
“This has been another incredibly busy and challenging year for those in the landscape industry,” said John McMahon, CEO of ALCC. “This year’s winners have demonstrated a commitment to key values. An impressive commitment to environmental protection as well as best business practices and public Works”.
The 2022 Awards, an annual event that has been running for over 50 years, recognizes winners in nine different categories, from sustainability to landscape architecture.
Denver-based Lifescape Colorado has been honored with three Elite Gold Awards this year. The first ever residential design and construction award went to the firm for a comprehensive refurbishment of an Englewood home owned by one of the Denver metropolitan area’s most prominent families. Combining luxurious amenities with a stylish look, the renovation successfully combines owners’ differing preferences for natural Colorado views and exquisite lush landscaping. The Lifescape Colorado team also worked on the existing pool and house/bar structure and upgraded all plumbing, irrigation and lighting to be more sustainable and high tech.
Lifescape Colorado received its second Gold Elite Residential Landscape Maintenance Award for its work on the Boulder site, which included a senior garden manager, two fall cleans, and one spring clean. The firm has maintained the 34,000-square-foot property for the past four years, overcoming the challenge of maintaining the site’s formal appearance, balancing site restrictions and the city’s strict “green” ordinances.
Lifescape Colorado received the Plant Design Elite Gold Award this year. The firm created double luxury rooftop terraces designed and built exclusively for the penthouses of the new condominium buildings, with incredible views of the mountains, the city and the baseball field. The plants of the project add color to the deserted area. Due to strict weight restrictions, only container plants could be used, and all trees, annuals and perennials had to withstand harsh weather and strong winds on the roof of the 14-story building.
Environmental Designs received the Gold Elite Community Management Award for its work on the Denver Synagogue Holocaust Memorial Garden. Businesses in Loveland and Brighton have completed the Daffodil Project, which aims to create living memorials to the children who died during the Holocaust by planting 1.5 million daffodils around the world. Environmental Designs worked with synagogues and kindergartens to design, fundraise and install gardens. The team was able to secure donations from vendors for many of the project’s materials, which helped keep costs down, and more than 20 employees were involved in the installation. After the garden was completed, Environmental Designs and the synagogue organized a community volunteer day during which they worked with local residents to plant, mulch and install drip irrigation.
Designscapes Colorado, founded by Centennial, received the Elite Gold Award in Irrigation Management for the renovation and replacement of an irrigation system at a Denver golf course. The company added new access roads and a new centrally controlled two-wire system using tree protection for existing roots. The new irrigation system improved the existing turf and attracted more golfers, which the client loved.
Singing Hills Landscape in Aurora won a Silver Award for home renovation in Denver. The homeowners wanted new and improved landscaping that would stay true to the historic nature of their Denver home, and the Singing Hills team matched the historic brick on the home with newly made painted bricks to give them a vintage look and used antique slate. They also overcame access and drainage issues to successfully complete this massive project.
Brightview Landscape Services, Inc. was awarded the Commercial Landscape Service Silver Award for her work on the Aurora site over the past five years. Working closely with customers and stakeholder groups, the Denver and Bloomfield-based company has maintained over 700,000 square feet of lawns, over 400,000 square feet of garden beds, and over 200,000 square feet of native plants. Brightview team members are implementing many sustainable landscape management (SLM) best practices, including using lawn mower mulching blades, green waste removal and recycling, reusing plant containers, and limiting unnecessary pruning or watering.
Denver-based Phase One Landscapes received the Elite Bronze Residential Design/Build Award for their work on the landscape of Greenwood Village. The company’s mission is to bring cohesion to homeowners’ large yards. They updated the space to create a cozy nook for morning coffee and an entertaining space for proms where the owners kids can have fun growing up.
